In
1999, critics applauded Jonathan's performance in Deep End of the Ocean,
in which he co-starred with Michelle Pfeiffer and Treat Williams as their
troubled son and for which he won the Hollywood Reporter’s Movieline
Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. His role in the ABC movie Trapped
in a Purple Haze as a heroin addict had critics and fans alike gushing
about his talent. He later joined Treat Williams again for an independent
movie called Skeletons in the Closet (2001) which again had critics
raving about his intense performance. Jonathan could be seen in 2002 opposite 6 Oscar® Winners: In the May-released Insomnia, featuring Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hilary Swank, playing a violent teen whose girlfriend has been found murdered and he’s the prime suspect. In Disney's Tuck Everlasting – adapted from the children’s book by Natalie Babbitt - he plays opposite Sissy Spacek, William Hurt and Ben Kingsley. He plays the lead role of Jesse Tuck who falls in love with Alexis Bledel’s (Gilmore Girls) character Winnie when she stumbles upon his family’s secret: immortality. Tony Geary and Genie Francis - his GH onscreen parents - gave Jonathan his first guitar as a present when he started on GH, so Tony and Jonathan could sing and play together. So when Jonathan is not acting he now writes music and performs with his band enation (formerly called Scarlet Road, Scarlet River and Jono & The Rock) which includes his brother Richard on drums. They independently released several albums prior to landing a record deal. Their first official CD titled Identity Theft has been released in late 2004 and can be ordered via their official website. In April 2002, he announced his engagement to former GH co-star
Lisa Vultaggio whom he married on June 21, 2002. The couple met through
mutual friends at church. Jonathan and his family are devout Christians.
The happy newlyweds announced in January 2003 that they are expecting
their first child, a boy, in June! In
late June 2003, Lisa and Jonathan announced the birth of their first child
- son Caleb Nathaniel - who was born exactly one year after they married.
Congratulations! After having finished work on Havana Nights in the summer, Jonathan shot the new Stephen King-based horror / thriller Riding the Bullet in November 2003. The film premiered at the 2004 San Diego Comic Con with Jonathan and director Mick Garris in attendance. Jonathan also continues to appear live with his band which gained a new member in Michael Galeotti, pastor Mike's son. While fans were wondering that Jonathan wasn't attending his movie's Hollywood premiere in early October 2004, he was already busy working on a new film - Dimension's Venom, produced and written by none other than Scream mastermind Kevin Williamson. Joining him in this voodoo horror movie will be Agnes Bruckner, Method Man and Bijou Phillips - they will play teens running for their lives through a swamp in Louisiana. Almost simultaneously, both his new websites were launched in time to get the new CD Identity Theft out to the public after having worked on that record for 14 months. After wrapping the movie 2 months later, enation was performing during the halftime show for the Portland TrailBlazers at the Rose Garden - and Jonathan sang the national anthem before the event! In an effort to raise money to help the Tsunami victims, enation joined forces with Cary Judd, John Stephens & Kristy Thirsk and toured the West Coast in April/May 2005 to promote their new CD. The year 2005 has been a busy year for Jonathan. In July, he became a father again to daughter Adora; in late 2005, he played serial killer and con-man Kenny Kimes jr. in the Lifetime TV movie A Little Thing Called Murder alongside Oscar® nominee and Emmy® winner Judy Davis; and enation was performing as well. A "historic" meeting happened on April 29, 2006, when Tony Geary invited all of his onscreen sons to appear alongside him at his first-ever personal appearance. It has been the first time that all 3 "Lucky" performers - Jonathan, Jacob Young and current "Lucky" Greg Vaughan - have been together in the same room! In 2006, Jonathan mostly spent his time giving concerts and writing new material for enation's new album which was finally released on Feb. 10, 2007. February was also important because Jonathan landed a role in the high profile project The Dark Is Rising, a movie based on the acclaimed children's book series of the same name by British author Susan Cooper and produced by Walden Media, the company behind the Narnia Chronicles movie. Jonathan joined the cast on Feb. 26 to shoot in Romania until later this year. His co-stars include Christopher Eccleston, Frances Conroy, Ian McShane and Gregory Smith.
