Trail Blazers Welcome Rock Band Enation
December 30, 2004

The rock band Enation, fronted by film actor Jonathan Jackson, will perform the National Anthem and provide half time entertainment during tonight’s home game against the San Antonio Spurs.

The band has played a number of venues including the famed clubs The Whisky a-go-go, The Viper Room, and The Roxy on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood to sold-out crowds. Dedicated fans will recognize Jonathan Jackson from his lead role in the Disney film Tuck Everlasting.

Jonathan Jackson and Richard Lee Jackson are two of the most respected, well known actors in Hollywood. Their film and television careers have given them the opportunity to work along side some of the biggest names in the business.

The pair formed Enation after they had played together for seven years,
playing concerts and selling records independently.

“A lot of people ask us what our passion is, if we’d have to choose one,” says drummer Richard Lee. “The answer is, we believe they go together. Music and filmmaking to us have the same aim…to tell stories, to move you or entertain you. They go hand in hand.

” It seems Enation is already holding hands with the film community, as the bands first single, Ride, is the theme song to the new Stephen King thriller Riding the Bullet, which stars Jonathan Jackson
(due out Oct. 15th).

Their record, Identity Theft, is a twelve song rock album that displays in vivid color why this is a band to be reckoned with. With their record in place, their national media blitz, and their explosive live shows, Enation is set for the launch pad. The dedication and hard work that it’s taken to get here is about to pay off.

Riding the Bullet will premiere on US Television in January 2005 before it's even released on DVD!

STEPHEN KING'S RIDING THE BULLET (USA, New!) - The horror writer's latest will make its small screen premiere on Sunday, January 23 at 8:00/7:00c. Jonathan Jackson stars as a distraught 21-year-old New England college student who hitchhikes through rural Maine to visit his sick mother (Barbara Hershey), only to be picked up by a mysterious stranger carrying haunting secrets.

Even though Riding The Bullet, Mick Garris’ latest Stephen King adaptation, didn’t get the kind of attention one might like when it went out for its limited theatrical run last month, someone higher up caught wind of it.

Fangoria got word today that Bullet will make its premiere on the USA Network on January 23rd, 2005. Sci Fi Channel will also get a piece of the film and air it later in 2005, probably a month or so before Lions Gate releases it on DVD.

Confusing, isn’t it? LG’s putting it out on DVD, USA is premiering, and somehow SciFi is sharing broadcast rights as well. Just how many fingers were in this pot, anyway? Either way I’ve heard some good things about it so I’ll be tuning in on the 23rd to check it out. Perhaps you should do the same.

Now for the German fans...since Riding the Bullet will be on Sci-Fi in the US, look for it on the German Sci-Fi channel (available via Premiere Abo), maybe they'll show it too.

More news about Backwater:

Currently filming is the fourth horror flick of note to come to town this year, the aforementioned "Backwater." It's based on a video game that never made it to mass market, and is about a serial killer who roams the bayous and swamps (hence: "Backwater") of Louisiana. A press release from Dimension Films calls it "a voodoo horror tale set deep in the swamps of Louisiana and centered around a group of teenagers fighting for survival against a mysterious evil force." One cynical Web site put it this way: "Think Blair Witch Project with a side of deep-fried catfish," and I wish I'd thought of that line.

Filming in and around Hammond, Amite and Thibodaux, the plot line is heavy on voodoo trickery and this is sketchy ground, because anyone who has watched any Louisiana-based, voodoo-themed movies knows that they've all pretty much sucked. But the good news is, "Backwater" comes with a writer/director team with unimpeachable horror cred. (Side note: I will not use the term "cred" again in this column.)

Kevin Williamson wrote the script; in addition to creating the WB's signature drama series "Dawson's Creek," Williamson wrote the "Scream" movie trilogy and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," a horror tour de force. Jim Gillespie, who directed "Last Summer," is directing "Backwater." It seems it could hardly go wrong. The cast includes the young and lovely ensemble of Agnes Bruckner, who began her career at age 11 on "The Bold and the Beautiful;" Jonathan Jackson, who was on "General Hospital" for six years; Bijou Phillips, who has both an interesting show biz lineage (Chyna's half-sister!) and an interesting name; and Method Man, yet another rapper crossing over into film. Again, I don't know the whole story but I'm guessing that Method Man is not playing one of the teens on the run but maybe is aligned with the voodoo thing.

Good casting. There's your scary film. And that's the news from Dread Central.

More info on Backwater

Fango has learned some more of the talent behind Dimension’s BACKWATER, directed by Jim (I KNOW WHAT YOU DID…) Gillespie from a Brandon Boyce/John Wade script for producer Kevin Williamson. Joining the cast previously announced here are Stacey (HARDWARE) Travis, James (THE X FILES) Pickens Jr., Laura (TV’s THE DAYS) Ramsey, Meagan (THE COOKOUT) Good, Pavel Szajda and Davetta Sherwood. In charge of creating the film’s makeup FX is Patrick Tatopoulos, whose last horror project was Screen Gems’ CAVE and who will be returning to create vampires and Lycans for the UNDERWORLD sequel (starting in Vancouver next month). BACKWATER, a mix of voodoo and slasher-film themes, is currently rolling on locations in and around New Orleans.

And Jonathan also speaks about Riding the Bullet again here

Jonathan speaks again - this time about Riding the Bullet

Jonathan Jackson, the star of the Stephen King film adaptation Riding the Bullet, told SCI FI Wire that he had not read King's original eBook before signing on to the film, written and directed by Mick Garris. "I met with Mick Garris, and that was basically how I got the role," Jackson said in an interview. "I had not read the story. [Garris] had seen my scenes in Insomnia with Al Pacino and was really positive about that, and after I met with him, he wanted me to do the movie. I loved the script. I think Mick is just an incredible writer, and it's a great role."

In the film, Jackson plays Alan, a death-obsessed college student who encounters a series of bizarre events while hitchhiking home to visit his sick mother, Jean (Barbara Hershey). Jackson said that part of the appeal of the role was having a more complex character to play than the doomed, one-dimensional teenagers he's usually offered. "It's not easy to find really good roles, especially leading roles, for guys my age," he said. "It was a great role and a really good story."

Jackson also said that while working with Garris he was able to concentrate on the character and leave the scares up to the director. "My job as an actor, I think, is to focus on story and character, and I trust him to create the suspense and the horror aspects of the movie," he said. "I just play the character as truthfully and honestly as I can, and to me this movie is a very emotional kind of spiritual movie, ... because a lot of visions that Alan has, because he's an artist, are very spiritual, and I was kind of coming at it from that direction. And I think that just made everything come alive from a character point of view." Riding the Bullet is currently in limited release.

  Jonathan SPEAKS!!!!! About Backwater :-)

Jackson Lost In Backwater

Jonathan Jackson, who co-stars with actress Agnes Bruckner (Murder by Numbers) in the upcoming voodoo horror movie Backwater, told SCI FI Wire that the project is a change of pace for screenwriter Kevin Williamson (Scream) and director Joe Gillespie (I Know What You Did Last Summer). "It's a suspenseful thriller that has some of the same horror elements, but it's a little less of a genre movie than some of the other stuff they've done," Jackson said in an interview. "It's [set in a] backwater in Louisiana, so it's about this kind of evil that gets released in the swamps of Louisiana, and a few young people have to try to escape and overcome it when it's released."

Jackson said the production is a few weeks into shooting and features more character development than most horror movies afford their future victims. "There's more character-oriented stuff," Jackson said. "There's definitely some special effects with the bad guy in the movie, but it's more of a balance between a good, entertaining thriller with horror elements and having a plot and characters and good acting scenes in there."

Man, I love it when I'm right LOL...here is an article about Raise Your Voice, the former Jonathan project called Heart of Summer before he and co-star Evan Rachel Wood dropped out. It's not very nice to Hilary Duff but I agree - esp. with this part:

Writer Sam Schreiber and director Sean McNamara originally offered the roles of Terri Fletcher and Jay to Evan Rachel Wood, star of critically acclaimed movie "Thirteen" and Jonathan Jackson from the magical story tale "Tuck Everlasting."

Unfortunately, dropping out because of production changes, casting them in the movie could have potentially saved it from bombing in the box office, as well as making it a deeper movie targeting older teens.

8 october 2004

News are dropping in daily - and I meant that literally...

The reason why Jonathan couldn't attend his own movie premiere (see below) is because he is shooting a new movie as we speak in Louisiana! It's called Backwater and  production started in and around New Orleans on Oct. 4.

Agnes Bruckner, Method Man, Bijou Phillips, D.J. Cotrona and Jonathan Jackson will star in Dimension Films' 'Backwater', a voodoo horror tale in which teens run for their lives through the swamps of Louisiana, reports Variety. 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' helmer Jim Gillespie is directing the film, which 'Scream' creator Kevin Williamson is producing along with Jennifer Breslow. (according to ComingSoon.net)

16 august 2004

The Arrow did an interview with Mick Garris - and he had this to say about Jonathan:

ARROW: Good move on casting Jonathan Jackson in the lead. Was he your first choice?

Mick Garris: I was unfamiliar with Jonathan’s work until I realized that he had played the boyfriend in INSOMNIA. He has this great interrogation scene with Pacino that was quite stunning work. But I didn’t really know him until I met with him on this. But I must say, I can’t imagine any actor being more right for this role. He really nailed it. And a true pleasure to work with at all times. Smart, flexible, well prepared, intuitive. There were a lot of actors we discussed. Since the film was done independently, there were a lot of demands for “name” actors for the key roles. You wouldn’t believe some of the ridiculous, unbelievably inappropriate actors we had to consider (and, out of politeness, I won’t mention them here). So we went through a ton of people before meeting Jonathan, and making that work. He was a total surprise and relief. His band even did a song for the soundtrack.
